Holiday Events and NYC Holiday Rentals

Even in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there is still some lingering disappointment of the ING NYC Marathon and annual Halloween parade not being rescheduled. However, we are luckily coming into a season that has a bevy of some of the most beloved annual events in New York City. The holiday season is a great time to take the family to a New York City vacation apartment rental and enjoy some of the best times the city has to offer.

There is the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which launches the season. Each year this event fills children with wonderment and offers parents a chance to do some early window shopping in advance of the holiday. New York has a fantastic public transportation system that opens up the entire city to you and your travel companions. There are the subways which can take you to the Bronx Zoo or a fantastic restaurant in Astoria, Queens and buses which can get you to Harlem or take you to Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

In each borough there are unique foods and experiences, not to mention people worth meeting. Heck, the access of New York’s public transportation can almost get you to some cool neighborhoods in New Jersey as well. The reason taking a trip to New York might necessitate a whole month or more is because there is so much to experience. Why would you limit yourself?

For your average music fan, a trip to New York is practically a pilgrimage. You want to see the sites that define the history of Rock & Roll, whether it be the spot where the Ramones played their first show (the now defunct CBGB’s), the parks in the Bronx that saw the birth of hip-hop, John Lennon’s “Imagine” memorial in Central Park, or areas where everyone including Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Madonna, the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, LCD Soundsystem and so many others cut their teeth.

Beyond the historical tourism, New York is a hotbed of musical activity, even today. This week the city welcomes the annual CMJ Music Marathon to its hundreds of venues for a week of cool shows from the latest up and coming artists. When you get off the boat you can get right back on and head to Manhattan or see a part of New York not often explored by tourists. Find out where the Wu Tang Clan is from, look at the beautiful Staten Island Zoo or try some of the best Sri Lanken food and pizza New York and the world have to offer.

Appropriate Clothing For The Fall In New York

International travel is tricky. It is even more tricky if your destination is someplace with a diverse climate like New York. If you intend to come into the Big Apple in the fall you are making a choice to visit us during the trickiest season to predict. In years past there have been a wealth of surprisingly hot days in September, and even deep into October, but also a number of days that were disconcertingly chilly. This means that in your New York holiday rental you should probably try and have both light and summery clothes and some warmer items.

Packing is always a test when traveling but preparing for a climate as potentially varying as New York’s might require a bit more space in your suitcase. You will definitely need a few pairs of shorts, in recent years temperatures have been, in general, warmer. Still those evenings and nights will likely require a sweater, jacket or even a light coat. The temperature will drop, sometimes unexpectedly at 11pm.

Enjoying the city is easy no matter what the weather but general preparedness is important to consider. Packing a couple of different options for your long stay is a good idea.
